Legislation and Registration
Overview of Qualifications
A wide range of qualifications are acceptable for registering with SSSC including qualifications that meet the registration requirements of other relevant professional bodies. Some of the main qualifications available now for registration are:
- Social Work Diploma or equivalent.
- SVQ 2, 3 & 4 in Health and Social Care.
- HNC in Social Care (may incorporate SVQ3).
- SVQ 4 Registered Managers Award.
The exact qualification depends on the type of care service and the worker’s role and responsibilities. See http://www.sssc.uk.com for full details.
Where staff have gained qualifications before the introduction of the SCQF credit transfer point system they are advised to contact the awarding body (college or university) to find out what level of credit their qualification can be valued at.
If staff do not have the required qualification at registration, but meet the other criteria, eg. are of good character, they may be granted registration subject to the condition that they achieve the qualification within a specified time period, normally three years the time before renewing their registration.
