Protecting Vulnerable Groups
The New Vetting and Barring Scheme
Monday 23rd October '07

This conference explains the act and how it will affect those working with children and vulnerable adults.

The Key Issues
    • Publication of the Scottish Executive’s consultation on the new vetting and barring scheme
    • What areas of work should be regulated under the act?
    • How is the system of vetting and barring expected to work?
    • What are the cost implications for organisations affected?
    • How and over what period should members of the regulated workforce be brought into membership of the scheme?
    • Should checks be retrospective, and if so, how will this be done?
    • How should we strike a balance between protecting vulnerable groups and over regulation

For further details, including the full agenda and delegate rates, please see the Holyrood Conference website.

    Meet the Buyer, Midlothian
    Thursday 1st Novermber '07

'Meet the Buyer' event is aimed at social enterprises in Mid, East and West Lothian, and the Borders.

At the event there will be a number of procurement officers from local authorities, health, and the Scottish Parliament, who are keen to make links with local social enterprises.  In the light of the recommendations in the McClelland Review, increasing moves to move social care provision onto a contract basis and the forthcoming production of guidance on social clauses in procurement, you might find it very useful to attend. To book a place or download the flyer please see http://www.mvacvs.org.uk/news/index.html or contact Dr Lesley Kelly, Development Officer (Funding), Midlothian Voluntary Action, 4/6 White Hart Street, Dalkeith, EH22 1AE Tel: 0131 663 9471 Email: lesley.kelly@mvacvs.org.uk

8th November '07, Stirling Management Centre

Investing in your workforce is not just about financial commitment - good people management, strong leadership at all levels, and an understanding of the registration process can all contribute to recruiting, retaining and developing the best possible workforce for your organisation.

This one day conference will explore the key challenges of workforce development for voluntary sector social services: recruitment, retention and registration, and ask what steps we can take now to develop the optimum workforce for the future.

For more information or to book a place contact Laura Weir 01786 849 752 or email vswu.admin@ccpscotland.org or see http://www.ccpscotland.org/workforceunit/events/
